Australia’s electricity regulator, as reported by ABC Illawarra, has announced a lower default market offer, reducing benchmark power prices as renewables cut wholesale costs. From July 2026, households may see decreases of 2–8%, while small businesses could see reductions of 8–20%. However, only some customers are on default plans and must shop around for better deals. Increased renewable energy use and government pressure on gas companies have helped stabilise prices, while fuel costs remain high due to global oil dependence and imports.
