INTERVIEW | Tim on NSW Country Hour with Michael Condon

Tim Buckley, director of Climate Energy Finance at the Public Interest think tank, says coal is definitely declining, even in China, where new coal-fired power stations often stand idle. He argues that “baseload power” is a misnomer as cheaper and better batteries emerge. China’s new coal plants are more efficient but still emit high levels of carbon. He says Australia will close most coal plants by 2040 as renewables dominate energy generation.
